About oral health

How do early cavities develop?
Although dental caries is caused by several kinds of pathogenic microbes, S. Mutan has been isolated from oral cavity in about 70% of cases. This bacteria is transferred from adults to babies via kisses, utensil sharing and bites of food. Babies are at their greatest risk of infection around 17-31 months when their teeth erupt. S. Mutan bacterium produces an enzyme which metabolizes sucrose and carbohydrate to form sticky substances (glucan), which serves as a bridge for the bacteria to bind tightly to teeth surfaces. Once bound, the bacteria generate a large amount of acids which decalcify enamel, causing tooth decay.
Why is it important to care for baby teeth?
Baby teeth play a vital role in the following ways:
  • They reserve space for their permanent teeth.
  • They give the face its normal appearance and aid in the development of clear speech.
  • They help attain good nutrition (missing or decayed teeth make it difficult to chew causing children to reject food).
  • Raising a child cavity-free give parents a great sense of proudness.

The pros & cons of common cavity prevention measure
Fluoride:
Pros: Research reported that it works when applied to tooth surfaces, then left alone for at least 30 minutes from food and drink, or a minimum of 5 minutes of brushing with fluoridated toothpaste. It helps remineralization on early phase dental cavity (white spots).
Cons: It is a toxin, not intended to be swallowed. (Read more at www.flouride-journal.com, www.flouridealert.org)
Xylitol:
Pros: Cariogenic bacteria can not metabolize Xylitol (sugar alcohol), and Xylitol helps neutralize the acidic condition in the mouth. A less acidic environment at the mouth means that there is less opportunity for the demineralization of tooth structure to occur.
Cons: Taking too much Xylitol contained products will cause stomach bloating or diarrhea. Bacteria still have the chance to metabolize sucrose and carbohydrate from meals.
Oral Probiotic:
Pros: It increases the number of good bacteria for good oral health.
Cons: Lack of evidence as to how it helps prevent early cavity development. In fact,
Antibiotic Mouth Rinse:
Pros: It effectively kills bacteria.
Cons: It kills all bad and good bacteria, unbalancing the good oral health condition. One of the cause for dry-mouth symptom.
What cause gum bleeding?
Gums bleeding is a common symptom of Gingivitis. It is first associated with the accumulation of bacterial plaque (biofilm) on your teeth which are not properly removed along the gum lines. In the absence of oxygen, the Gingivalis bacteria produce enzymes that destroy gum cells. As a result, gum inflammation and bleeding can occur. It also causes bad breath.
What cause bad breath (Halitosis)?
While some foods such as garlic and onion cause bad breath, they are very temporary. If you have constant bad breath that you need to mask by continually using chewing gum or mints, the cause of it is more likely to be the overgrowth of bacteria in your digestion tract (mouth to stomach). There are different pathogens of bacteria living in our digestion tract, and they produce different odors. In the mouth itself, tooth bacteria that live in the plaques and the tongue bacteria (known as fungus) that grow on our body cells such as tongue, gums and mouth wall are the two major causes of bad breath. Those Bacteria multiply faster when our saliva glands are not active, so the odor is usually worse when dry-mouth condition occurs. Dry mouth can be caused by alcohol (mouth rinse), smoking, or as simple as being exposed to less oxygent for some period.

About the product

Has this product been approved by FDA?
Oralcryst® are new functional confectionary products. FDA doesn't pre-approve functional food before marketing, however, all ingredients in Oralcryst are FDA-approved GRAS food ingredients. In addition, our label has been reviewed by the US agent who is familiar with FDA labeling regulation. And we, as the manufacturer, are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and truthfulness of our claims.
How natural is natural flavoring used in Oralcryst?
Everyone seems to have different opinions between natural and artificial flavorings, and we have taken that into consideration when we created our products. To show transparency, the natural flavoring that Oralcryst uses contains a basic level of natural oil extract from the four different fruit flavors, which is then processed to keep the ingredientユs aroma as close as possible to the natural fresh fruit, while preventing the formation of mold.
For example, our Orange flavor uses natural orange essence oil, vitamin E derived from soybeans, processed starch derived from corn, dextrin derived from Cassava (yucca, whose flour made of the roots is called tapioca), and Esters, a synthetic chemical compound.
What is the difference between Xylitol chewing gums and Oralcryst candies and mints?
Oralcryst® contains not only Xylitol, but also Ovalgen®, natural oral bacteria antibodies harvested from chicken egg yolk, Calcium and Vitamin D3 derived from natural food ingredients, which will optimize good oral health inside out. Unlike sugarless gums, you won't have to worry about your kids putting it on the furniture, floors, carpets, walls or beds after chewing. Moreover, these hard candies are not coated, they dissolve slowly in wet environment, its shape was developed to prevent choking hazard, make them safer for young kids to take.
What is the side effect from taking these products?
The only known side effect from taking "too much" of these products is stomach bloating and loose stool or even. Please reduce your intake when any of this occurs. We don't recommend that you take other Xylitol products (or other sugar alcohol products) along with this product maximum dosage for your intestinal health.
Why should I use this product vs. brushing my teeth or using a mouth rinse?
These products are not a replacement to tooth brushing and flossing. It helps further eliminate the bad bacteria in the mouth and optimize oral health. Unlike mouth rinse (alcohol based) which works to kill bacteria (bad and good) and give the bacteria the opportunity to develop resistance, it damages the oral balance rather than helps. This product does not kill bacteria* but only targets specifically to bad bacteria, leaving the good bacteria for good oral health.
Which products should I take?
For young toddlers starting as soon as the molar teeth grow in, please offer them Oralcryst® Junior. It is specifically developed and designed for little mouths and kids up to around 6 years old.

These products are best used frequently during the day. Instead of eating 2 or 4 mints at one time, it is recommended that you eat one at a time, but more frequently. During sleep, our saliva glands are not as active and result in drier mouth, a perfect condition for bacteria to multiply and do damage. For that reason, taking one or two tablets before bedtime is strongly recommended. There is no particular dosage and it really depends on your individual weight, due to the amount of Xylitol used in each lozenge, a person weighing 90 pounds should take a maximum of 4 mints daily.
How is these products revolutionary?
These products are categorized as "functional food". They are the first products that focus on a symbiosis approach rather than antibiosis to promote good oral health. They minimize the bacteria to develop an antibiotic resistance to the ingredients. The natural immunoglobulin (or igY) help to optimize your oral health by binding themselves to the bacteria and helping to inhibit the bacteria from damaging your teeth, gums and mouth. Each product is developed for specific needs and targets in mind.
Why doesn't my dentist recommend this product?
Our unique ingredient called Ovalgen® was developed through more than 20 years of research and has been proven effective in Japan. Oralcryst® products are the first products containing this unique ingredient and are generally unknown among dental professionals in the US. However, some articles have been published recently in:
How are the ingredients chosen to be used in this oral care candy?
The founder is a very health-conscious person, and always tries to stay away from ingredients that have the potential to do harm to our bodies. Each ingredient proposed in the formula for Oralcrysts® products has to go through extensive research with effectiveness and safety results based not only on government or medical reports, but also from the nutritional and independent researchers. The products are all developed for our own family's use, so the safest and highest quality ingredients were used, while keeping the price affordable for average consumers.
This product is tasteless!
If you don't taste the mint or fruit flavor when you first eat Oralcryst produts, there is a possibility that you have a thick layer of fungus on your tongue that reduces the ability to taste foods, resulting in an appetite loss. DON'T GIVE UP. By taking this mint regularly, you will minimize the overgrowth of the bacteria and help detach them from your tongue cells so that you can easily brush them off. Finally, you will be able to enjoy the good taste of all the foods you eat.

About Oralcryst® Junior

My child has developed cavities, will taking this product help cure the cavity?
This candy is not a drug. Taking this won't cure the existing cavities, but it may slow down the decaying process of the infected tooth* or help protect uninfected teeth. We recommend parents to start offering this candy as part of your child's oral care routine as soon as the first molar teeth emerge (13~19 months) before the development of early cavity occurs.
*effectiveness is depending on individual's eating habits
Why is alcohol included in the Oralcryst product for toddlers?
Also called "polyols", sugar alcohols are carbohydrates. The name is confusing because part of their chemical structure resembles sugar and part of it resembles alcohol. Examples of common sugar alcohols are maltitol, sorbitol, isomalt, and xylitol. These carbohydrates can not be metabolized by the bacteria in the mouth, make them common sugar replacement that do not promote tooth decays.
Although "alcohol" is part of their name, you can't get drunk eating these products. However, because they may not be completely absorbed, they can ferment in the intestines and eating too much of them can cause stomach bloating or loose stool.
Some people can have different reactions to different sugar alcohol, so careful monitoring your use is advised. Sugar alcohol is found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, including various berries, corn husks, oats, and mushrooms.

Additionally, her body's Calcium may be feeding her unborn baby, making the expecting mother more vulnerable to oral diseases. After the baby's birth, having a large amount of bacteria in the mothers' mouth will result in the transfer of bacteria to the newborn, which may result in early cavity development. It is critically important for the expectant mother and her family members to optimize their oral health to protect the little ones.
